General Statement of Duties: Under general supervision and according to established MRI policies and procedures and ACR standards produce consistently high quality diagnostic MRI exams.
Reporting/Supervisory Relationship: Imaging Manager
Typical Physical Demands: Position requires full range of body mechanics including the ability to lift 50 lbs without assistance. Must be able to reach, stoop and bend while maintaining proper body position. Employee must also have the ability to manage physically aggressive patients and the capabi8lity to be independently mobile. Must have the ability to work within a limited space and in a bright and low-lighted control area. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations, observe patient, read monitors and documents and hear equipment alarms. Manual dexterity to sufficiently operate MRI equipment and the ability to perform tasks for a long period of time.
Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Exposure to ongoing noise and strong magnetic fields. Must be able to work effectively in stressful conditions as well as flexible.
Essential Job Duties:
- Perform MRI scanning procedures including proper screening, positioning and technique. Must exercise good judgment with respect to patient’s age, health condition and/or special needs.
- Thoroughly explain the procedure to the patient and their family members. Monitor the patient using the intercom for frequent communication. Instruct patient on proper use of alarm/hand bell
- Be proficient in the use and administration of contrast media
- Using proper technique provide patient venous access to administer contrast media
- Review patient history in determining underlying medical conditions that may affect Gadolinium reactions
- Maintain MRI unit in good working condition, including cleanliness. Notify manage of unit repair, AC problems, etc.
- Oxygen tank and levels are to be checked daily
- Must be familiar with the practice guidelines for MRI scanning developed by the ACR (American College of Radiology). Must have detailed knowledge of Quality Assurance Testing for ACR phantoms and practice QC program
- Researches implant information, as needed using manufacturer’s guidelines and the MRI safety manual. Documentation must accompany screening form with technologist signature on it
- Assists technical assistants in the patient scheduling and preparation required prior to examination if necessary
- Ensure supplied are adequate, notify manager when low
- Provide training and technical direction to new personnel
- Check daily patient schedules to ensure that the physician orders match the examination that has been ordered in the computer
- Maintain patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
- Check PACS work list throughout the day for any outstanding studies; make corrections
Other Job Duties:
- Maintains professional credentials, CEUs an pursues professional development
- Attends all annual inservices (HIPAA, OSHA, CPR, sexual harassment, customer service, etc.) and training programs
- Attends all staff meetings
- Completes all other duties assigned by Imaging Manager
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must maintain positive] relationships with all staff, physicians and outside vendors. Uphold customer service mentality at all times
- Interact with radiologist about protocols and scan techniques as needed
- Must be comfortable using e-mail, internet applications, PACS system
- Makes recommendations for improvements, willingness to be a self-starter and to assume additional responsibility as needed
- Must remain calm and effective in an emergency situation
- Demonstrates effective listening skills and express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing
- Plans and priorities tasks in an orderly manner. Considers importance of assignments in relation to department goals. Determines most efficient means to perform job function
- Attendance/reliability – works as scheduled and reports to work on time
- Ability to identify disease abnormalities and physiological processes while performing MRI scans
- Patient care standard and requirements
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an AMA Council of Education program in radiologic technology. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in MR or registry eligible. SCRQSA certification; CPR certification; CEUs as outlined by ARRT and SCRQSA. Must apply and take the ARRT Advanced Registry examination within 18 months of hire date. Must successfully pass the ARRT Advanced MR Registry examination with 30 months of hire date.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years experience in a hospital or outpatient setting
License: ARRT and SCRQSA, CPR required
